The Flower Park of Hokkaido Island is a tourist attraction that has to be seen by the flower lovers. It hosts over a million flowers spread over an area of 100.000 square meters, on a hill overlooking the scenic town Tokinoue.

There are lots of tourist destinations on the island of Hokkaido in Japan, but the park with flower stands out as being the most colorful. Every year in early May to mid-June, the hill is covered with a carpet of pink flowers “Moss Phlox” known under the name of “shibazakura”.

The tortuous paths take the visitors from the base to the top of the hill, where they witness a magnificent view of the “sea” of flowers. Higashimokoto Park was founded in 1956 with only a box of seeds, but a growing number of plants were sown every year since then and today pink flowers are covering an area of 100.000 square meters. During the season, the plants fill the air with a sweet fragrance that complements the stunning view. The locals create every year a festival dedicated to flowers with all kinds of themed events and stalls for snacks and souvenirs.
